2)                  Review of minutes from June 30, 2007

                        Action: Reviewed and approved

3)         Report from Chair

The ISPCC members met on the new web page design to accept comments. Several recommendations were made regarding placement of the New Faculty orientation information.

IEP for the unit is due in September for SACS re-accreditation. This office prepared this last year and received a review. Objectives were identified, reviewed, and data was pulled and finalized.

Dr. Rockhold requested assistance with the TRIAD- Any ideas or suggestions for articles or full written articles. Topic suggestions made included: the Dept of Physiology's new teaching methods, the new coffee service in the library, the writing group. A 250 word article would be ideal.

Dr. Waltman reported on the audio conferences the SON is looking at for Faculty Development to become proficient in building distance learning courses. Because so many SON classes are taught via blackboard, it is important to train faculty accordingly.

"Online Classroom"- an online newsletter, provides support and training. Ada requested information about obtaining a campus wide license rather than only SON. Dr. Rockhold added that it would be good for SACS purposes that we can show support of distance Learning.

Dr. Lushbaugh presented another online resource: Educause, a more philosophical online learning tool. Members are asked to bring more information on subscriptions to the next meeting.

Turnitin.com was also a topic of discussion. There is plagiarism in the SON, as in all programs. There will be training for SON faculty on this program in the fall, but it would be useful for other faculty. Academic policies need to be in place for plagiarism.

Dr. Lushbaugh noted that in late Sept. the Dept. of Physiology will begin using "clickers" or audience responded devices. This will help instructor address issues not comprehended by students.

A roster for the Leadership Development Program was provided by Dr. Rockhold. The changes from last year's class include hiring a consulting firm to do a needs assessment, a two day retreat and two follow-up sessions. The schedule for 2007-2008 is firm. Participants are allowed only one excused absence. Those not able to commit to this year will be invited back next year.

Dr. Rockhold reported that Monthly Faculty Development Seminars will take place on the last Wednesday of each month beginning in January. There is a growing roster of nationally recognized presenters in place.

4)         Sub-Committee Reports

o   Dr. Drummond prepared a report from the New Faculty Orientation subcommittee. The subcommittee met briefly via e-mails and collected recourses.

5)         New Business from floor

Dr. Rockhold inquired how the members felt about the frequency of the committee meetings. There was much discussion; however it was decided to keep the meetings monthly for now.

6)         Adjournment
