What Role Does Faculty Development Play at UMMC
The Office of Faculty Development for the University of Mississippi Medical Center serves to promote the fullest capacities of faculty as academic leaders in education, service to the Medical Center mission and in cooperation with the Office of Research, in aspects of the research endeavor. To accomplish these goals, the Office offers services which include:
Sponsorship of a leadership development program
for faculty
Support of interdisciplinary research and education
activities among UMMC faculty
Facilitating access to faculty development information
resources
Consultations with individual faculty to address areas of need
Assistance with departmental management of post-tenure review activities
Orientation activities for new faculty not currently managed by Human Resources
Recognition of excellence in educational delivery
The Office of Faculty Development works closely with a medical center standing committee, the UMMC Faculty Development Committee (for more information regarding the Committee and its members please visit our Leadership Page), and with the UMMC Faculty Senate (for more information regarding the Faculty Senate and its members, please visit their website). The Faculty Development Committee was formed in order to establish campus-wide policies in support of faculty professional development activities; to coordinate school participation in campus-wide faculty development programs and to help foster a positive campus climate for UMMC faculty to reach their full potential.
